Projects

We believe that it is essential for people’s well-being to have purpose in their day-to-day life and to learn new skills. We have established different work projects to introduce our service users to a proper work environment where they learn valuable skills and develop their self confidence.

Each person living within a Woodleigh service is offered the opportunity to work at one of our projects. People are often more capable than they or others believe, so we have found that people quickly pick up new skills and feel great pride from producing things, whether it be baking bread, making cushions or growing vegetables or flowers.

Working within one of our projects can often be a springboard for people to find a new sense of purpose and, in some cases, to give them the confidence to go on to find supported employment elsewhere.

BAKERY

Our bakery is based near Kirkside in Leeds and runs as a commercial bakery operation under the supervision of a qualified baker. The bakery offers work placements for up to twenty people who learn the skills of baking using equipment such as large ovens, mixing machines etc.

The bakery produces bread, pizzas, scones and other bakery products each day, supplying all our different services across West Yorkshire with everything they need.

TEXTILES WORKSHOP

Our textiles workshop is based near Beacon House in Bradford where people produce different textiles products using sewing and knitting machines and various weaving looms under the supervision of an experienced textiles workshop manager.

The workshop offers work placements for up to fifteen people who produce items such as curtains, bears, aprons, cushions and scarves to then sell.

Horticulture Project

Our horticulture project is based near Kirkside in Leeds where people grow vegetables, flowers and bedding plants to supply fresh produce for our different services.

The project offers work placements for up to twelve people under the supervision of an experienced gardener who work all year round in our allotment and poly-tunnels.
