Working for Us Training & Development

Training & Development

The people working at Woodleigh are our most important asset. Every staff member within the organisation is provided with significant training & development opportunities, career progression, responsibility, lots of support and a competitive rate of pay.

When selecting people to work for us, we look for good life skills, relevant experience and a friendly and positive approach. Because of the needs of our service users, all our services have larger staff teams than normal and it is essential that everybody works well as part of a team. It is also important that you have a strong desire to learn.

Woodleigh has Investor in People accreditation and has also been awarded for 'Training and Dissemination of Good Practice' at the Laing and Buisson Independent Specialist Care Awards. Woodleigh offers a thorough training and development programme which starts from the first day you join us. All staff have a thorough induction, arranged by our Training Department which incorporates the key areas including equal opportunities, confidentiality, person centred approaches, risk taking, health and safety, safeguarding, independence and non-crisis intervention techniques. We offer more specialist training courses on a wide range of subjects which are both clinical and skill based, for example, assertiveness, report writing, personality disorders, mental capacity act, effective time management etc. We also sponsor people to complete NVQ 2, 3 or 4 in Health and Social Care, provide nursing preceptorship courses and other training depending upon people's interests and job roles.

For staff members wishing to progress, we also have our own unique staff development program which is divided into three tiers – Bronze, Silver and Gold - and each award provides a framework within which staff may expand their competencies in order to develop their career with us.

Finally, all staff are supported through regular supervision sessions with their line manager, typically the Service Manager. This usually occurs every six weeks and represents a chance for people to take stock of what they achieved, consolidate their existing knowledge and then agree areas for further development and an action plan to help address these. The supervision process is an integral part of the working relationship with each staff member to help them develop their skills and progress.

As a growing organisation, we need people to grow with us. Between supervision, training, our development program and a keen desire to promote people from within, there is every opportunity to make the most of people's skills and ambition so they progress their career within Woodleigh.
